One of the most accomplished U.S. track athletes of all time, Shannon's longevity in her sport is inspiring. Her honors include 3x Olympian, Olympic Bronze Medalist, 2x World Bronze medalist, World Record (DMR), American Record at three distances (1500m, 2 miles, 5000m) & ranked top 10 in the world for a decade. With her London 2012 Olympic Bronze, Shannon became the first American woman to medal in the women's 1500m. Shannon is the co-founder of Imagining More, a non-profit organization that promotes arts &athletics for youth. She was selected by the U.S. Department of State to serve as a Sports Envoy to Morocco on the topic of "Women's Empowerment Through Sport."

A Duke University alum, Shannon graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in English, Theater &Film Studies, before earning her Master's cum laude in the Humanities, with an emphasis on Film Studies and Women's Studies. Shannon holds General Management Certificates from Dartmouth's Tuck School of Business "Next Step," Harvard Business School's "Crossover to Business" &IMD Business School's "Innovation in Action" program. Shannon has also worked as a broadcaster &in-stadium announcer for CBS, World Athletics, USA Track & Field & NCAA. In 2024, Shannon made her NBC Sports debut as a Track &Field analyst for the Paris Olympics.
